Chelsea Clinton Coming to UW-Milwaukee

Sunday, February 10th, 2008 by Fuzz

Chelsea Clinton is coming to the UWM Union Ballroom tomorrow morning at 10:45. That’s awesome. I mean, who better than the dog-faced daughter of the world’s foremost ice queen to really connect with young voters. Sheesh. I’m glad that I don’t have classes tomorrow - campus is going to be a perfect mess.

Hat tip: the most beautiful girl in the worrrrrrrld.

Hillary Hates America

Thursday, January 31st, 2008 by Fuzz

Apparently, either Hillary Clinton doesn’t know how to properly salute/pledge allegiance to the flag, or she has some extremely incompetent web designers. (*Claude pointed it out to me… I wasn’t actively searching Clinton’s website ;) )

Hillary, your RIGHT hand goes over your heart. Or… are you THAT liberal?

10 Items or Less

Saturday, January 26th, 2008 by Fuzz

Dear 35-year-old woman at Pick ‘n Save in the 10-items-or-less lane with a shopping cart full of produce and Kessler’s whiskey… when you see a guy behind you with an arm full of frozen veggies, a gallon of milk, and a bottle of merlot, please either let him go first - OR GO TO A LANE THAT ACCEPTS MORE THAN 10 ITEMS!

Thanks for being a bitch.

I seriously feel better now.

50’s Arms

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 by Fuzz

50_roids.jpgYesterday, I purchased a bottle of “Formula 50″ Vitamin Water. For those of you who don’t know, one of Vitamin Water’s top investors is rapper 50 Cent. On the bottle of “Formula 50,” it reads,

who wouldn’t want to live large like 50? that’s just how he rolls.  he doesn’t just make albums… he makes them multi-platinum. he doesn’t just make movies… he makes them with award winning actors. he doesn’t just “work out”… he works out 7 days a week. those guns (we mean biceps) don’t come easy so it only makes sense that 50’s drink is large too. it’s packed with the key nutrients he needs to get through his day. that’s why it’s called formula 50 - genius, right? now you too can live large like 50… or at least drink like him. hey, you gotta start somewhere.

First… I was putting “[sic]” all over the place, but then quickly realized that the entire paragraph should just have a large [sic] after it. I mean, the whole thing is a mess.

Grammar aside, the real reason for this post is the sentence that reads, “those guns (we mean biceps) don’t come easy so it only makes sense that 50’s drink is large too.” That sentence kinda lost it’s punch after the reports came out inferring that 50 Cent is an avid steroid user.

From Newsday:

For many people, yesterday’s news that allegations of steroid and growth hormone use had spread from the sports world to the entertainment industry came as a surprise. According to reports, the Albany County district attorney’s office has named not only Blige but 50 Cent, Wyclef Jean, and the record producer Timbaland in an investigation into a possible steroid-peddling business.

Maybe he got hooked after he was recovering from his gunshot wounds back in the day? Nah…

Verizon Wireless CPNI Invasion of Privacy

Thursday, December 27th, 2007 by Fuzz

Even though I am a Verizon Wireless customer, and they posted this notice a couple of months ago, I didn’t see that good old VZW is selling my intimate personal information to marketing firms.

CPNI stands for Customer Proprietary Network Information. This information includes: how many minutes you buy and use, where you use these minutes, where you’re from, what kind of phone you have, what kind of information you use, where you’re calling, and what other services you purchase from Verizon. Basically, these data allow marketing firms to have information that rivals only that of a stalker ex-girlfriend in order to better serve their purposes.

The opt-out clause came in the form of a mailer (if you get the paper bill) or a simple part of their website that you would have never read (if it wasn’t for me, of course). In the clause, which came out in October, it states that they’re going to sell your information in 30 days, unless you opt out. My favorite sentences, “You have a right to keep your CPNI private by ‘opting out.’ Unless you provide us with notice that you wish to opt out with in 30 days of receiving this letter, we will assume that you give the Verizon Companies the right to share your CPNI with the authorized companies as described above.”

There is good news, however. You can opt out right now by calling 1-800-333-9956. It’s a pretty simple process. You’ll enter your telephone number, your zip code, and the last four digits of your social security number. After that, you actually have to confirm that you don’t want them selling your information. They kind of make it sound like they’re doing you a favor by selling your information, but trust me, they’re not.

Seriously, if you’re a Verizon Wireless customer, call and opt out right now!

UW-Milwaukee Stepped it Up

Thursday, November 29th, 2007 by Fuzz

I’m impressed. From an e-mail:

Nov. 29, 2007

Statement from UW-Milwaukee Administration:

UWM Union Modifies Policy
on Speaker Security Charges

From the beginning of our planning for the Dec. 4 appearance of Walid Shoebat at the UW-Milwaukee Union, campus officials have been most concerned with the safety of students and the others who will be coming to our university to attend the event. A safety plan for the event was created by the Division of Student Affairs after reviewing the experiences of other universities where Mr. Shoebat appeared. The cost for the required additional security services was based on a fee-recovery program developed by UWM Union officials over the summer.

It has become clear, however, that the additional security expenses have been perceived by some as a means to discourage speakers from visiting the UWM campus. Simply stated, that is not the case. UWM is committed to its long-standing practice of welcoming and encouraging discussion and debate of all issues no matter how controversial.

To ensure that the UWM Union remains a place where ideas are freely exchanged, the Union will explore other methods to recover such expenses. As a result of this policy change, the Union is cancelling the additional security charges that were to have been applied to next Tuesday’s Shoebat speech sponsored by the Conservative Union and to a forum on the same day sponsored by the Muslim Student Association.

Throughout its history, UWM has kept its doors open to people expressing a myriad of perspectives. A particularly significant example was the Nov. 23, 1965, appearance of Martin Luther King, Jr. at UWM, which required extraordinary safety measures. In the following years, the university has welcomed numerous speakers who represented many perspectives. We will continue to do so in order to preserve and protect the right to free speech and, when necessary, we will take precautions to ensure the safety of all involved.

Speaking of Terrorists

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Fuzz

My school, UW-Milwaukee, is hosting former terrorist, Walid Shoebat, as he explains why terrorism is bad and why Muslims shouldn’t hate Jews. The Muslim Student Association is protesting the event stating, “if the UWM council doesn’t cancel the event, we will protest.” (source: 620 WTMJ)

I’ll just say it… I actually feel threatened by the MSA’s remarks. It’s a sad state of affairs for an entire population when one hears “muslims” and “protests” and immediately thinks, “bombs.” The MSA isn’t doing anything to deminish those fears by protesting an event stating why people shouldn’t engage in terrorism.

Luckily for us, UWM will probably cave and not host the event.

…would that mean that the terrorists win?

AP Photographer/Terrorist

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 by Fuzz

If you had doubts that some of the national media was in bed with the terrorists, this should set your mind straight… at least a little bit.

From CNN:

The U.S. military says it has “convincing and irrefutable” evidence that an award-winning Associated Press photographer is connected to the insurgency in Iraq.

The photographer, Bilal Hussein Zaidon, faces charges in the Iraqi Central Court based on the evidence, Pentagon officials said Monday.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell and other U.S. military officials would not say directly what charges he faced. They referred reporters to the Iraqi court system.

Hussein, an Iraqi who lives in the western Anbar province city of Ramadi, has been held without charge by the U.S. military since April 2006, when bomb parts and insurgent propaganda were found in his house after the U.S. military asked to use it as an observation post during an operation.

Hussein was already under suspicion by the U.S. military because he arrived at terrorist attack sites so quickly that they suspected he had advance knowledge of attacks, according to Morrell.

Emphasis mine. This sickens me.

If You Claim to Have a Gun…

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 by Fuzz

…and you threaten to kill somebody, you should still expect the police to treat you like you have a gun. Even if all you really have is a hairbrush.

From CNN:

Officers shot and killed an 18-year-old man who they believed to be armed, New York police said, but witnesses said Tuesday he was only holding a hairbrush.

The Monday night shooting followed a 911 call from the man’s mother. Police described the situation as “a family dispute with a gun.”

After officers arrived, the teen refused to halt as he approached police, prompting them to open fire, The Associated Press reported.

Police told The New York Times they believed the teen, Khiel Coppin, had a gun, but after five officers fired 20 shots they realized he was holding only a hairbrush.

“The boy didn’t have no gun, he had a brush on him,” said Andre Wildman, a neighbor who told CNN that he saw the shooting.

UWM Student Shot

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 by Fuzz

Seriously, if I ever get shot at or near school, I sincerely hope that my family sues the state on my behalf for denying my right to bear arms. Stories like this really make me wish that I could carry my Glock 27 (at least in my car).

Smoke and Mirrors

Friday, October 19th, 2007 by Fuzz

Mark, my news guy, had a story on this morning about David Copperfield’s storage facility being raided and $2 Million cash being seized. The Las Vegas Review-Journal is chocking it up to “possible sexual misconduct by the illusionist.”

From CNN.com:

FBI agents searched a Las Vegas, Nevada, warehouse owned by illusionist David Copperfield, according to an FBI spokesman, adding that the Wednesday night raid was related to a case based in Seattle.

A Good Ol’ Fashioned Pistol Whipping

Friday, October 12th, 2007 by Fuzz

Great story from Channel 12:

That’s when police said the pizza man grabbed the gun and began pistol whipping the first attacker.

The pizza driver went to St. Francis Hospital to get treatment and saw the first suspect sitting in the emergency room. The victim called police, and the suspect was arrested.

Thanks to Claude for the head’s up via e-mail!
