Cloverfield 01.18.08

Friday, July 20th, 2007 by Claude

Thanks to a great college friend, Chris Baker, for posting this on his blog.  I really have no idea what this movie is going to be like, but of course this movie will kick ass, J.J. Abrams is involved (LOST RULES!).  Looks great, right?

Women Rejoice

Thursday, July 5th, 2007 by Fuzz

Men, I hope for your sake that you are not one to get sucked into going to “chick flicks” with your ladies. It has just been announced that the Sex in the City movie will happen.  Filming starts in September, and all four of the women from the original HBO series have signed contracts to be in the film.

Hey, how ’bout that.

Live Free or Die Hard

Sunday, July 1st, 2007 by Fuzz

Upon Elliot’s advice, Squiz (BJS) and I took in “Live Free or Die Hard” this afternoon. It was a pretty good flick, though I have to say that there was one WAY too over-the-top scene in the film that took a little bit away from the experience for me. All in all, though, it kicked ass.

By the way, the new Marcus Majestic theater by Sam’s Club in Waukesha is excellent! I had been there once, but the movie that I had seen was playing on one of the side screens. The side screens weren’t bad by any means, but they weren’t nearly as good as the HUGE UltraScreens that they have there. We paid the extra $1.50 for the luxury seats that have a table in between them and plush seats. They were very comfortable and definitely worth the buck-fitty.

Quote for Fuzz

I thought this was a good quote…and applicable for Fuzz. :)

Well, I have a microphone, and you don’t, SO YOU WILL LISTEN TO EVERY DAMN WORD I HAVE TO SAY!

Worst Trilogies of All Times

Monday, June 25th, 2007 by Fuzz

Amazon.com recently conducted a poll which viewers chose the worst trilogies of all time. I agree wth 4/5’s of it:

  1. “Look Who’s Talking.” - I remember watching the first movie with my mom… and I was giggling at the scene with the spermies swimming since, well, I was 11 years old. The second movie, “Look Who’s Talking, Too,” came out exactly one year later. It was rather dumb, but whatever. Then “Look Who’s Talking Now” came out when I was a freshman in high school. Yeah… it sucked.
  2. “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” - I only watched the first movie because I wanted Jennifer Love Hewitt to have my babies. She didn’t… so I refused to watch the sequel.
  3. “American Pie.” - The first two were okay. The last one stunk. Actually, the first one (though cheesy) is pretty much a classic. Anyway, it takes three good ones to make a good trilogy. AP doesn’t cut it.
  4. “Crocodile Dundee.” - I never realized they made a third Crocodile Dundee movie. That’s not a knife!
  5. “Star Wars.” - Okay… that’s like blasphemy, ‘n’ stuff. WTF! I think this is one of those trilogies that they threw in there just so people would argue about it, thereby drumming up publicity. Well, it probably worked. But still! It’s friggin’ Star Wars! Couldn’t they have at least picked like, oh, Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds, Harry Potter, you know - something that really did suck.

Okay, that last part was me goofing around trying to drum up controversy by saying Harry Potter sucks. For the record I have never seen any of the Harry Potter films, nor have I read any of the books.

Movie Marathon weekend

Sunday, June 24th, 2007 by Claude

With the addition to a new-born in our household, I have found myself awake at odd hours, allowing me more time to watch movies.  Here is the list of movies I watched this weekend.  Of course, some were at the request of my wife…so cut me some slack :)

Pan’s Labrynth
Catch and Release
Underworld
My Blue Heaven
Bridget Jones’ Diary
The 5th Element
Ghostbusters 2
Ocean’s 11
Ocean’s 12
Shainghi Noon
Team America World Police (started to watch this on Netflix, online)

*Pan’s Labrynth is a pretty good movie, if you don’t mind subtitles (set in spain during WWII ?).
Catch and Release is not that good.
The rest are all re-runs of movies we own.

AFI Top 100

Thursday, June 21st, 2007 by Claude

Here is the AFI’s Top 100 Movie ranking, again…I have stricken every movie that I have seen…I think a lot of these are kinda “ehhhh” movies in terms of wanting to watch them today…but they have their places in history.

Smokin’ Aces

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007 by Claude

I want to give Squirrel a big nod for recommending this movie to me.  My wife and I watched it the other night…and let me say it was pretty good.  I am glad Squiz clarified that it was “just a great shoot’em-up flick”.  Of course, I didn’t expect the plot to be too involved, but this accurate description of the movie was just the ticket to making the movie more enjoyable at the right time.

Jeremy Piven plays a soon-to-be federal informant against the mob.  While he is waiting to be taken into protective custody, a motley crue of independent contract killers (all with varying degrees of methods and tactics) are on their way to kill him at whatever cost so that they can collect the $1M bounty on his head.  Bullets and chaos ensue.

There are a lot of big and well recognized actors/musicians in this movie, which makes it even more enjoyable to watch.  I really enjoyed the ending, as well.

I give Smokin’ Aces: 4.25 / 5 Squirrels!

Netflix

Sunday, June 17th, 2007 by Claude

I started using Netflix in 2003 after a friend gave me a gift certificate for my birthday.  At first, I ripped through dozens of movies a month (3 at a time)…eventually slowing down to almost watching less than 3 a month.

Now that I have a little one that likes to get up early and lay next to Daddy (and will sleep consistently) I have been using Netflix more regularly.  What has made my already positive view of Netflix even better is their “watch online” feature.  You can select from a large list of moderate to decent movies and view them online.  The great part is that if you stop in the middle for whatever reason, Netflix remembers where you were in the movie and when you come back to watch, it’s cued up right to that spot.

The only downer is that they currently only support PCs for watching movies.

An Inconvenient Truth

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 by Claude

I watched An Inconvenient Truth this morning. No matter what your political affiliation or opinion of Al Gore, you should watch this movie, because the environment has no place in terms of politicing, it should be everyone’s concern. I will not go on and on about how important repairing the environment is.

What I will leave you with is this thought.  To say there is no need to fix the environment and protect the planet is to say that the environment is at the best it has ever been because of what we are currently doing in terms of its preservation.

Fear

Friday, June 8th, 2007 by Fuzz

**note**: I am not a Star Wars geek, but they have been playing all of the six episodes on Cinemax lately, so I’ve watched a couple of them. I found the following quote to be very inspiring.

Deja Vu

Friday, June 1st, 2007 by Claude

I just finished watching Deja Vu with Denzel Washington.  I didn’t hear to much about this flick, so I expected it to kinda stink, but I was really surprised!  I thought it was a great movie and concept.  Originally, I thought it was going to have the Matrix explaination of deja vu, thankfully, it had a different interpretation.  Denzel Washington is awesome, as always (Man on Fire, Training Day, Remember the Titans, et al) If you have a lazy Sunday (or Friday morning) , rent it.

Fuzz’s Top 5: Women I Don’t Find Attractive

Monday, May 21st, 2007 by Fuzz

Fuzz’s Top 5

If I could have fit it in, the full title for this edition of Fuzz’s Top Five would have been, “Fuzz’s Top 5: Women I Don’t Find Attractive, Though Everybody Else Seems to Think So.”

Let’s do it:

  1. jolie.jpgAngelina Jolie:

There is something about this woman that I simply cannot stand. I don’t know if it is the way she holds herself, the fact that she was with Billy Bob Thorton and carried a vile of his blood around her neck, or just because she looks like a drowned sewer rat. Either way, people think she’s hot, and I simply don’t.

  2. aniston.jpgJennifer Aniston:

First, and no offense to those of you who liked the show, Friends, but I could not stand that show. I would have easily lumped Courtney Cox into this Top Five, but she’s irrelevant. Unlike most people, when I see Jennifer Aniston, I think, “ick.”

  3. lohan.jpgLindsay Lohan:

My mom told me never to pick on those less fortunate… but I can’t resist. Watching this girl deteriorate is like watching a train derail, only to have a crew put it back on the tracks so that they can watch it derail again. She’ll be dead before she’s 30. (how’s your dead pool doing, btw?)

  4. hilton.jpg Paris Hilton:

This is the woman that I usually get the most ridicule from when I say that I don’t think she’s all that hot. In fact, Squirrel once said to me, “whatever, man… you’d hit that.” Uhm… no. Not even with your “!!!!” and Claude pushing… alright.

  5. diaz.jpgCameron Diaz:

I thought she was cute in “The Mask.” After the first time I heard her open her mouth, though, I was instantly turned off. I mean… no deal. I have a “thing” for intelligent women. Cameron Diaz may be intelligent - but if you’ve ever heard her talk, she sounds like she has the IQ of a nematode.

There you go. You may love them. The world may think they’re hot. I, however, think they’re not.

Lethal Weapon

Thursday, May 17th, 2007 by Fuzz

I watched Lethal Weapon 4 tonight (for about the 19th time), and I have to say that Jet Li could kick Jackie Chan’s ass any day of the week.

Carry on.

Dumbass Actors

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 by Fuzz

You know, I just mentioned Mr. Sizemore (and how he ruined his career) in my post yesterday, and today he goes and gets himself arrested. That dude needs help.

Stranger Than Fiction

Saturday, April 21st, 2007 by Fuzz

I watched “Stranger Than Fiction,” with Will Ferrell, this evening. I have to say that it was better than any other Will Ferrell movie I have ever seen. Rent it.

Pagar La Renta, Por Favor

Thursday, April 19th, 2007 by Fuzz

I remember my dad, a southside landlord, teaching me the above phrase when I was about 8 years old… and thought that it was a nice segue to show you Will Ferrell’s new video, “The Landlord.” The video is shown on Ferrell’s new “YouTube,” ripoff called, “FunnyOrDie.com.”

I put the video after the jump because, well, the staff at FoD hasn’t learned how to turn off the autostart in their player.

Rated PG-13 for a number of “B”-bombs.
