Look to the Right

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 by Fuzz

Lately, I’ve been so busy working on getting Fuzz Martin Media up and running that I haven’t had much time to devote to FuzzMartin.com. If you really care about what I’m doing, feel free to look to my Twitter feed in the column on your right. Twitter is like drive-by blogging. It’s great because I can bust posts out in between breaths and then get back to what I’m doing.

In the right-hand column, you can also see my latest iStockphoto.com files.

Enjoy.

Domain Name Help

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 by Fuzz

My friend/client, Shaun Williams, of Williams Financial Services, is finally getting his website together. We are having an issue agreeing upon which domain name will best suit his company, and we’d like your help. I’ll tell you which domain name I believe is best, and why, after you vote (I don’t want to taint the results).

Please note that all of the “good names” are gone (e.g., WilliamsFinancial.com, WilliamsFinancialServices.com, WilliamsFinancialSolutions.com, Willams.com, WFS.com ;), et al.)

Help Pick a Domain Name

  • InvestWithWilliams.com (74%, 14 Votes)
  • WFServicesLLC.com (16%, 3 Votes)
  • WF-Services.com (11%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 19

I chose InvestWithWilliams.com because it rolls off the tongue, it's easy to remember, and it has a call to action. WF-Services.com has a hyphen, which is always a nightmare, and if a client forgets the hyphen, they'll be going to somebody else's site. WFServicesLLC.com is like alphabet soup. It has all the correct letters, but only one word.

Please comment on why you chose what you did, below.

Fuzz Martin Media to become Fuzz Martin Media, LLC

Friday, November 7th, 2008 by Fuzz

Fuzz Martin bites the bullet, makes it official

MAYVILLE, Wis. — Since 2005, metro-Milwaukee radio personality, Fuzz Martin, has been conducting a photography, voiceover, copywriting, and Web site development company, known as Fuzz Martin Media. Over the past three years, each facet of the business has grown significantly. With the growth of the company comes the need to form an organized entity. As of January 1, 2009, Fuzz Martin Media will officially be known as Fuzz Martin Media, LLC.

A newly designed logo, mailing address, Web site (http://www.fuzzmartinmedia.com/), and phone number will be unveiled at the beginning of the new year.

Fuzz Martin Media needs a Logo

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008 by Fuzz

Engaged White Media Guy seeks Big Beautiful Logo…

If you’re a designer and you’re willing to barter, I could really use a logo for my tiny, little business - Fuzz Martin Media. In exchange, I offer you my time for photography, copyediting, copywriting, a voiceover, or php/mysql backend work.

I would like to have the logo done by December 15th.

Contact me at the e-mail address on the right (fuzz aht fuzz martin d com) with the subject: LOGO.

Word to your mother.

Welcome Back, Claude

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 by Fuzz

When Lunarpages decided that we were using too much CPU (central processing unit), they booted us to an “abuse server.” The abuse server is designed to stop resource-heavy sites or sites that are experiencing Denial-of-Service attacks from taking down all of the other sites on a shared-server environment.

One of the safety switches on the abuse server blocks IP addresses when it detects that too much data is transferred to or from the site. That means that if you try to FTP (file-transfer protocol) files to the site or download them to backup your site, it blocks you from having any access at all to the site. So, for awhile, both Claude and I were locked out of our server. It was a nightmare.

As of this morning, Claude was able to view the site again. Balance has been restored to the Force.

Okay, enough nerdery. Back to your regularly scheduled nonsense.

Oh, and while you’re here - check out JeffSays.com.

…And We’re Back

Monday, September 8th, 2008 by Fuzz

FuzzMartin.com was on hiatus for a few weeks while I sorted out some issues with my web host. To put it lightly, it was a pain in the ass. But now, after three or four weeks of phone calls and emails with customer support, we’re back in business, baby. I have been with this company for five years and had never experienced any problems with them in the past, so I’ll give them a one-time pass for this bout of garbage that we just got through. This is their only warning, though. ;) Thank you to everybody who suggested new host companies while we were in limbo.

Microphone Check, One, Two, What is This?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 by Fuzz

Just checking to make sure that FuzzMartin.com is working correctly. We jumped servers last night (when my hosting company said, “tonight,” apparently they meant “two-nights… from now.”

PHP5 seems to be working okay.

Alright, I’m off to a weekend long photo shoot. Stay right, homies.

In My Projects…

Monday, August 18th, 2008 by Fuzz

My dad sent me a link to a new program called Jing. Check out my quick intro to it:

UPDATE: I have noticed one problem and received confirmation from the developer — you can’t resize videos. So, if you want to take a screen vid of something and throw it on your Wordpress site, it has to be no more than 440px wide before you start messing up your template. Boo!

BGS Glass

Monday, August 18th, 2008 by Fuzz

Over the past month or so, I have been updating the website for Waukesha’s BGS Glass. After trying to make a home-brewed template and engine, I decided that just couldn’t nail them both down in a time frame that was acceptable to me. Instead, I decided to use WordPress as the site’s base. BGSGlass.com has a similar look and feel as FuzzMartin.com, but I’m hoping that the WordPress Kubrick theme will prove to be a huge asset when it comes to Search Engine Optimization and layout flexibility.

For those who don’t know, I used to work at BGS Glass when I was a kid. It’s a great family-owned operation that is crazy-go-nuts about providing quality work. When you need commercial storefronts or residential glass work in Milwaukee, Waukesha, or anywhere in Southeastern Wisconsin, I highly recommend that you use BGS Glass.

FM.com Fantasy Football

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 by Fuzz

Now that everybody is finally done talking about Brett Favre, I am open to invitations to join the FuzzMartin.com Fantasy Football Challenge. On the line is my lone-remaining FuzzMartin.com t-shirt that will go to the winner. I promise it’s not dusty. I don’t promise that it will fit.

To join the league, go to: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/ - click on the bottommost “join a league” link.

League ID: 415251
League password: fuzzy

When I have 10 people signed up, I’ll get the autodraft ready.

Oh, yeah, it’s free — in case you were wondering.

Site Issues

Sunday, August 10th, 2008 by Fuzz

The RSS feed from iStockphoto.com that was working so well all weekend decided that it doesn’t want to work now. So, you may notice that the site doesn’t fully load. Unfortunately, WordPress won’t let me remove the widget that is causing the problem because the widget won’t load in order for me to remove it. Catch 22, really.

If you just read the top half all the time, you’ll be fine. :D

I’ll fix it in the morning.

I’m Here, I’m Here

Monday, July 7th, 2008 by Fuzz

I’ve been quiet on the FM.com front for the last month or so while I spend the majority of my non-fathering/non-radio time working on Fuzz Martin Media projects. Most of my time is spent taking photos, editing photos, and working out pricing/packaging details.

I want to be up and running with enough time to grab some of the 2009 senior portrait work. :) Hooray for capitalism and entrepreneurship.

Wordpress 2.5

Thursday, March 27th, 2008 by Fuzz

A note from the Fuzz Martin Media Nerdery: This is just a test post from WordPress 2.5.

There is nothing more to see here (or anywhere, really).

Lorem Ipsum

Saturday, January 26th, 2008 by Fuzz

This morning I am busy reworking BGSGlass.com. It’s been a project that has been in the works for awhile, but time and schedules weren’t meshing. Now that I am gung-ho on getting this together, I needed some quick text filler to hold my paragraphs before the content could be installed.

That’s when I found the Lorem Ipsum generator! It’s friggin’ cool (mostly because it saved me time).

Okay… back to work.

(oh, and thank you to Panera Bread in West Bend for letting me siphon off their WiFi, electrical outlet, and coffee spigot. :D )

Back in the Saddle

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007 by Fuzz

Okay… I’m done with my FM.com vacation. Now back to my regularly unscheduled ramblings.

Fuzz in Lines

Monday, December 24th, 2007 by Fuzz

I’ve been toying around with becoming an iStock illustrator to compliment my photography portfolio. Over the last few weeks I have been practicing with the pen tool, and I finally think that I am getting the hang of it. On Sunday night, I finally submitted my illustrator application. Wish me luck.

And now… a tracing of my beautiful mug. ;)

Cool New Toy

Friday, October 19th, 2007 by Fuzz

I’m just testing a new product to see how it looks. Feel free to play around with it, if you’d like.

Hmmm… it’s not working so hotlike. There’s supposed to be a video above this.

Caffeine Addict

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 by Fuzz

In trying to come up with some different concepts for my photography portfolio, I decided to start documenting my caffeine addiction.

Here’s the first in the series: (yes, it’s ground coffee - but you can’t really tell for sure on the small photo - I have some more shots with actual coffee beans in the shot as well.)
