Doesn’t Add Up
April 10th, 2008 by FuzzTagged as: Ezekiel Lopez-Quintero, Ezequiel Lopez-Quintero, Frank Fabiano, Jeff Asbury, Jeffrey Asbury, murder.
Jeffrey A. Asbury:
Crime: Hopped up on coke, killed wife in Fox Lake’s unstaffed police station.
Sentence: 30 years in prison with extended supervision thereafter. (He’ll be 70 when his sentence is up, but he may get out early).
Ezequiel Lopez-Quintero:
Crime: Hopped up on coke and tequila, killed Kenosha deputy, Frank Fabiano, in cold blood.
Sentence: Life without parole.
Asbury should have received the same sentence as Lopez-Quintero. He has no business getting back out on the streets - even if somehow he serves the full sentence (does anybody actually serve the full term of their sentence these days?).

It adds up when you realize that our criminal justice system values some lives more than others. That’s why pretty much every state has some statute which makes killing a police officer a more serious kind of murder compared to killing a loved one.
Same goes for hate crimes… killing or beating a person of a certain race/gender/sexual orientation/hair style will get you more time than killing… well… me for example.
I’m not saying it’s right… just thats the way it is. The people in this country have decided democratically that Asbury’s wife’s life was simply less valuable than the Kenosha deputy.

I suppose you’re right, Nick. After all, Jessica Kasten only got probation for killing her son:
Nope… she got 10 years probation.
That reminds me… I’m going to write about this.
