CNN article applauds wiretaps of MLK
April 1st, 2008 by ClaudeTagged as: CNN, FBI, Jr., Martin Luther King, wiretapping.
The article on CNN.com says that the FBI’s wiretapping of Martin Luther King Jr. shows his selflessness. The article goes on to quote scholar David Garrow who says “…in terms of the political history that ironically the FBI has created for us, it’s a wonderful resource”.
This is a very slippery slope to enter down. A quote like this actually seems to encourage wiretapping as a way to document history…and not show it for what it is, an invasion of people’s rights in the pursuit of a conviction of a false accusation (MLK’s being a communist in this case).
As news outlet, CNN should be more responsible than this.
